Did you see a man behaving suspiciously in the Derbyshire Lane area of Sheffield yesterday morning?

It is believed that at some time between 9.30am and 10.30am yesterday (Tuesday 17 March), a 71-year-old woman was in a property in Cobnar Drive, Sheffield, when an unknown man entered and threatened her with a knife.

The woman was robbed before being subjected to a sexual assault by the man. Her wedding ring and money was taken during the incident. The man is described as being white, between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins tall, of medium to stocky build. He is believed to be between 40 and 50-years-old with a weathered appearance and a round face.

He is also described as being bald, with some hair around the sides of his head that is dark in colour. He is also believed to have heavy stubble around his mouth and is described as looking unkempt. He was reportedly wearing glasses and dark clothing, and spoke with a local accent.

Detective Chief Inspector Zaf Ali in Sheffield said: “This was a horrific attack on an elderly woman in a relative’s home and we are taking this report incredibly seriously. “We are conducting extensive enquiries in the local area, including going door-to-door speaking to residents. Witnesses describe seeing a man in dark clothing in the area at the time, who appeared to be struggling with a heavy bag of some sort. We need to hear from anyone who may have witnessed a man behaving suspiciously in the area between 9.30am and 10.30am yesterday morning – any information, no matter how small, could help us identify the person responsible. I also need to hear from anyone who may have been offered a wedding ring for sale.”
