RIP John Brown

jbIt is with great sadness that we must announce that John Brown passed away on Tuesday March 3rd. As Chairman of Norton Lees Residents Association, John has been a mainstay of the group. He was a pillar of the local community, being also active with St Paul’s Church, Chair of the Friends of Bishops’ House since its inception, leader of Norton Lees Local History group, with the former St. Pauls Players (both onstage and as a set designer) and Norton Cricket Club, where he was a spin bowler. He was a life-long fan of his beloved Sheffield United.

John had been an architect with Sheffield Council for most of his working life. During his retirement Bishops’ House became a focus for John’s love and knowledge of history. He gave regular, well-attended talks on various facets of our local history. John was always friendly, calm and erudite, providing excellent company to whoever got to know him. He will be sorely missed by all his friends, colleagues and especially his two children.

There will be a ceremony for him at St Pauls Church Saturday 14th March at 9.15. Donations should be made to St Luke’s Hospice on his behalf.
